Walkersville Celebrates 125th Anniversary With Charter Signing Recreation
by Barry Fleming
On Tuesday Walkersville Maryland held a reenactment of the charter being signed for Walkersville to become an actual town in Maryland. This year marks the 125th anniversary of the town becoming a chartered municipality. I spoke to residents of the town and this is what they had to say.
Mayor of Walkersville Chad Weddle stated “I became mayor September of 2015. We will have this celebration every 25 years. I think it’s nice to know what happened on the past, but the major thing we’re trying to do is get the community in Walkersville together. We will be having a lot of events coming up this year”.
Walkersville historical society member Florence Schell said “This year we’re going to have a lot of events in Walkersville, like a Christmas parade something similar to the one in Germany. I have always had a passion for acting. I actually was in my first play at 46 years old at the Weinberg Center. I think this is a very important for Walkersville”.
Walkersville is a very small town and it is very important that you come out and support local events; someone in our school might be planning the next reenactment of the signing. We hope to see you come out and join us at future events.
